Professor Alan McCarthy - update
Professor Alan McCarthy, a Trustee of Cara from 2006 - 2024, passed away on 3 January 2025. Alan was Professor, later Emeritius Professor, of Microbiology of the Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences at the University of Liverpool. As a Cara Trustee, he served as Chair of the Grant Allocation Committee of our UK Programme until 2016 before taking on the role of Honorary Secretary, and served finally as our Chair from 2023-2024. He gave his time unstintingly and is remembered by all as a source of inspiration and wise advice. He will be very much missed.
