Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) - Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) - Cara - IASH, University of Edinburgh lecture

Shortly before Covid struck we linked up with the RSE and the YAS to launch a new public lecture series in Scotland. Unfortunately, we had only held one event before everything had to stop.

We were therefore very happy to be able to re-launch the series with an excellent lecture on 10 September 2024 by Professor Shalini Randeria, the President and Rector of the Central European University (CEU). In her thought-provoking talk, she set out her concerns about the backlash against liberal values and principles and against human rights in general, and especially against women’s rights, LGBTQI rights and migrants’ rights, not only in autocratic regimes but in liberal democracies too.
